Description

Chalk Paint® Lacquer

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint® Lacquer is a hard-wearing, water-based polyacrylic varnish with built-in UV protection. Use it over Chalk Paint® for a robust finish that will withstand general wear and tear – perfect for dining room tables, outdoor furniture, floors and skirting boards. This clear gloss lacquer goes on perfectly clear and dries quickly without yellowing over time. See our Fact Sheet for more information.

Available in two finishes: Matte and Gloss. Comes in tins of 750ml. Matte Lacquer provides a matte finish and will slightly darken the color of the Chalk Paint®, as with Chalk Paint® Wax. Gloss gives a light sheen but is not ultra glossy.

Technical information

One 750ml tin will cover 19 square metres (204ft ²).

Always test Chalk Paint” Lacquer over a patch of Chalk Paint“ to ensure there is no bleed through from your furniture.

Avoid multiple coats of Matt Chalk Paint Lacquer over dark colors. If extra durability is required Annie recommends a coat or two of Gloss Lacquer followed by a final single coat of Matt Lacquer to avoid any cloudiness.

What is the best way to apply Annie Sloan Lacquer?

Apply Annie Sloan Chalk Paint® Lacquer with a quality sponge roller and/or brush. Stir well before using and during use.  Apply two thin coats for even sheen and greater durability. A small amount of water (up to 10%) can be added to the gloss or matte lacquer for the first coat. Let the first coat dry one to two hours before recoating, and leave the final coat to dry overnight before walking on it.

• Thin coats of Lacquer are best over dark colors. Annie Sloan Lacquer is a matt varnish which contains flattening agents to give it its low lustre. If the Lacquer is applied thickly over a dark surface, those flattening agents may appear to give a ‘frosted’ or ‘milky’ look to the finish. There is no easy fix for this problem and your customer will have to reapply their finish. Advise your customers to always apply the Lacquer in two thin coats. A small amount of water (up to 10%) can be added to the Lacquer for the first coat.

• Annie Sloan Lacquer should be used on interior floors only. It is not recommended for use outdoors or in areas where there will be a lot of water.

• Lacquer should never be applied over Chalk Paint®™ Wax. If you change your mind after waxing and decide you would prefer to use Lacquer, you will need to paint over the (cured) wax finish with Chalk Paint®/™ first. All rights reserved. • Always perform a test patch when using Lacquer. When applying Lacquer, bear in mind that it is a 'penetrating' finish and can pull tannins or stains from the wood up through the paint. This can be especially noticeable on whites, manifesting as a yellow stain. Always test Chalk Paint®™ and Lacquer on several areas before you begin your project. If a stain appears, simply apply a thin coat of Lacquer or shellac based primer directly over the entire surface to be painted before painting and lacquering again.
